To keep up-to-date with my lesson
podcasts, you would need to remember to return to my
Podcast download page on a regular schedule or simply check in periodically
to see if anything new has been posted. Think newsreports or imagine I had
some incredible truths to share with you and you really wanted to listen
to them (yes, just imagine that....<grin>) and you didn't want to
have to remember to come back to this page to download them. Enter
podcasting! The advantage podcasting
brings is the ability to schedule regular downloads of newly posted material.
There is nothing terribly magical about podcasting. A podcast simply "rides"
as an attachment to a regular feed distributed through the RSS
protocol. RSS, or "Really Simple Syndication," provides a methodology
and protocol ("rules") for the simple scheduled distribution of
files, such as news feeds. Podcasting simply attaches an audio file to the
distributed file. There are dozens of RSS feed readers one can download
to receive RSS feeds. iPodder seems to be the most popular for such 'reader'
or "podcatching" software for Podcasts. |
